Biography
Fabian Carini began a professional career at the age of 16. He has gained the respect and
faith of fans with his outstanding performances.
Carini debuted professionally with Danubio of Uruguay in 1995.
Two years later, at the age of 17, he played on the Uruguayan under-20 national team at the FIFA World Youth Championship
1997 in Malaysia. Although he did not play a match for his team that made the final, he became world reknowned.
In
1999, Carini again made the U-20 squad at the age of 19. He led Uruguay to the FIFA World Youth Championship 1999 in
Nigeria , where he was named the tournament's top keeper as Uruguay finished in fourth place.
Later that year, Carini
made his full international debut against Paraguay with a 3-2 win. Carini performed well at Copa America Paraguay
1999, leading the Celeste to second place. Carini also helped to win the quarter-final against the hosts and the semi-final
against Chile in dramatic penalty kicks.
In 2000, Carini made the move to Juventus in Italy. Carini
did not establish himself as a starter in Juventus but he is an outstanding goalkeeper, and he starts for most of the
Uruguay team's matches.
Carini was handed the starting spot against the Oceania champions as Uruguay attempted to qualify
for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 12 years. Carini surrendered only a penalty kick in a 1-0 defeat in the
first leg, giving his team hope for the return leg in Montevideo. In the decisive match, Carini played well, and
Uruguay won 3-0 against Australia, qualifying for the World Cup finals.
Carini played well at the FIFA World Cup 2002 which was held in Japan and South Korea although Uruguay was unable to
progress to the second round of the World Cup Finals.
Carini is currently playing for Real Murcia, a Spanish team that plays in the First Division.
